7th International Model Railway Exhibition

The 7th International Model Railway Exhibition took place in the FEZ from 9th to 11th November 2018.
In all, 30 different model railways were on show across the 4,000 m² floor surface. The exhibits came in all shapes and sizes with some travelling from Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Switzerland to be with us.

The event takes place every two years and once again the FEZ enjoyed high visitor numbers with 10,000 people coming through the doors to see the biggest model railway show in Berlin. Particularly high was the proportion of families who visited us, accounting for approximately 40% of total visitor numbers.

Also located directly amongst the model railway exhibits was the well-attended creative area where children could take on the role of designer and play railway-related games. Over the weekend, more than 450 equipment sets were assembled, which were provided by the companies of Auhagen, Faller and Tillig.

Another popular part was the workshop area addressing the topics of digital technology with regard to model-making.

As in previous years, we were glad to welcome a number of special guests, including traders in accessories, tools and books and museum representatives who brought along models such as the Pressnitztalbahn and the Berliner Parkeisenbahn. Traders and manufacturers also kindly supplied us with interesting prizes for use in our competition. These prizes found their way to new homes at the beginning of December.

The visitors, including the many children, helped us to award the title of most interesting model railway.
The following exhibits took places 1 to 5:

  • Joint 1st Place: "Fantasia Zoo" from the Netherlands
  • Joint 1st Place: H0 model by pupils from the Gustav Heinemann Oberschule, Berlin
  • 2nd Place: TTe – "Wittower Ferry" model, Oedheim
  • 3rd Place: H0 'Hin & Her' harbour model from the Netherlands
  • 4th Place: TT model, Stephan Kindling, Halle
  • 5th Place: H0 "Granitbruch" model, Rik Martens from Belgium

Congratulations to all of the winners!

Looking back, we can celebrate another successful event with an ever-increasing number of visitors. Of course, the weekend would not have been possible without the support of the various model railway manufacturers, traders and the VGB Verlag. It goes without saying that we are grateful for the role you play and we'd like to say many thanks once again.

We thank the following manufacturers:
Auhagen, Piko, Tillig

and the followig Berlin-based model railway traders:
Modellbahnbox Karlshorst, Modellbahnen am Mierendorffplatz, Modellbahnen in Rudow, Modellbahn Langhansstraße, dem Eisenbahn-Sammlershop, Conrad and SPIELE MAX.

As one exhibition ends, we begin to look ahead to the next. The 8th edition is scheduled to take place in autumn 2020.
